Keeping the car interior cabin clean and make it sustain the aroma isn’t an easy task, especially if the climate outside is not congenial. Things get worse, when the cabin floor mats start accumulating dirt, debris and salt. If it is not cleaned immediately, these elements will not only start stinking but also start staining the mats, giving them an ugly look.
We all are aware of these challenges, but what can pose as a greater challenge in this is removing the salt stains that become persistent and doesn’t want to go even after several sincere efforts. The entire course becomes time consuming, and if it doesn’t return the desired effect, it frustrates us to the core.
Trying to deal with this on our own, and failing each time disastrously, we had to take the help of some staff who serve at the Seaside Chevrolet service center. That did help us, as they explained the entire process with detail, and suggested the easiest solutions we never knew.
The Reason Why Salt Stains Accumulate
The staff whom we spoke to explained to us the simple fact, that in rainy or winter season, when the roads get wet or icy, the road salt help the ice melt. It is a good thing to happen, as it helps the driving conditions easier and safer for the driver. But at the same time, the road salt creates a mess if they get chance to climb inside your car. The road salt will get accumulated along with the dust and debris particles that get carried along with the shoes of the car occupants, when they enter the car after walking on the icy and wet roads. These salt particles stick to the floor mat as they are mostly made of rubber and do not wish to leave the surface with regular cleaning. The stains are stubborn, but the experts have found out an easier way out to remove these salt and ice melt stains from the car mats.
All you have to do is implement the following steps:
Create a Mixture of These Ingredients
Take one cup of white vinegar and similar amount of warm water in a bucket, and stir them together well, till it becomes an even solution. Now, pour this solution liquid into a spray bottle. To stay out of mess, try using a funnel.
Take Out the Mat to Implement the Method
The experts at the Seaside Chevrolet dealer service center suggest taking out the mat from the car cabin before starting the cleaning.
Test Out the Effect
Before you start using this solution, it is better to test its effect on a portion of the car cabin mat that stays hidden. This is to make sure that the solution isn’t too intense to damage the surface of the mat. After applying the solution in a small quantity on a small patch, allow this spot to dry off completely. If you see the results to be satisfactory, then you can safely use this mixture on the rest of the mat. To get the best results use a scrub brush that does not have too hard bristles.
Allow it to dry of its own in the sun.
