Boston is one of the oldest and most historic cities in America. Peoples will recall that the Boston Tea Party was one of the key events in the determination of patriots to throw off their allegiance to the British Crown. The city is steeped in history, and many of the old parts of Boston have been preserved. The following are some of the interesting places to visit in this wonderful city.
The Freedom Trail
There are 16 attractions along this 2.5 mile trail. The trail is clearly marked, and each of the attractions is clearly signposted. The attractions include the Old South Meeting House, the Old State House and the Paul Revere House. There is an information booth in Tremont Street. There, you can get a map and a brochure that details each of the attractions.
Faneuil Hall Marketplace
The Faneuil Hall Marketplace is a great place to take a break when you are on the Freedom Trail. Also known as the Quincy Market, the area is home to many excellent restaurants and food outlets. It is both an indoor and outdoor market. It is not unusual to see colorful pageants recreating events from the Revolution.
The Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum
Rebuilt following a fire in 2001, this attraction is a must-see. It features reenactments of the Boston Tea Party events. Visitors do not just look on, but are actively encouraged to participate. This is great entertainment for adults and children alike.
The Museum of Science
This museum has over 400 interactive exhibits. It is also home to a planetarium and an IMAX theater. Kids and adults will love the 4-D exhibit, Dawn of the Dinosaurs, while the Butterfly Garden is enchanting. In the Theater of Electricity, the audience is treated to the spectacle of indoor lightning bolts.
The New England Aquarium
Another great family attraction, the aquarium opened in 1969. It is one of the city’s most popular attractions. The Giant Ocean Tank features a man-made, coral reef that is home to exotic tropical fish, stingrays, sharks and sea turtles.
The Museum of Fine Arts
This is the largest art museum in New England, and is home to the largest collection of Monet paintings outside France. Great American works are exhibited in the Art of the Americas Wing.
